Cotabato fetes Miss Universe PH bet MJ Lastimosa
10,000 fans from all over Mindanao congregated at the Cotabato Provincial Capitol for the homecoming of newly-crowned Miss Universe Philippines 2014 Mary Jean Lastimosa. A source of pride for the province, Tulunan native Lastimosa was honored by the local government through various activities during her visit.
Lastimosa, who stylishly arrived in a purple terno via chartered helicopter from Davao to Kidapawan, was welcomed by the Board Members of North Cotabato province.
She met her fans and supporters in a festive motorcade procession, signed autographs, and met the local press in a mini press conference.
Staying true to her promise of being an inspiration to others, MJ shared messages of thanks and hope to the crowd who welcomed her at the Centennial Sayaw Kutawato 2014 program. Addressing the crowd of mostly students, MJ encouraged the youth to be unafraid to chase their dreams. She added that the support of the community as well as the local government, headed by Governor Emmylou "Lala" J. Talino-Mendoza, fueled her to join the pageant once more despite initially failing to win.
Lastimosa also spent time at the Cotabato Provincial Hospital. She visited and comforted the sick and gamely posed for photos with the patients and hospital staff. In her native tongue, Lastimosa shared, "I will always be proud of my roots, and I will not be where I am now if not for the love and support of Cotabato. I will always be grateful to my hometown, and I offer my journey to the Miss Universe Crown to all of you."
