Binibining Pilipinas to go Out of the Box with New Media Partner
Familiar, but distinctly different.
From being a Kapuso to being a Kapamilya, there are fascinating changes in structure and presentation that are eagerly anticipated during the 47th Binibining Pilipinas Pageant. Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. (BPCI) is now working closely with ABS-CBN management in maximizing the organization’s potential and is exploring “out-of-the-box” concepts and activities to make the pageant a more exciting experience for both the contestants and the viewers.
Among these are outreach activities that break the stereotype of beauty queens as those who can’t have their hair mussed up or their nails break. BPCI believes that even beauties must adapt with the changing times. Bb. Pilipinas beauties are real women who aren’t afraid to soil their hands or break a nail if it’s for a worthy cause. So don’t be surprised if you see Ms. Philippines Universe Venus Raj holding a shovel to build homes for Gawad Kalinga or first runner up Diane Necio feverishly handing out snacks to thousands of destitute children during Araneta’s recent treat to the Chinese Acrobatic Circus.
Enhanced celebrity value is something everyone is anticipating to spice up regular Binibining Pilipinas must-see activities such as the traditional Parade of Beauties around the Araneta Center, the Press Presentation at the Sofitel Hotel, and the Talent Competition in the one of the high end malls of the center. BPCI officials recently met with ABS-CBN marketing and production strategists to map out the initial thrilling changes in format and implementation. The network boasts of the widest roster of local celebrities. With ABS-CBN’s renowned production savvy and unprecedented worldwide reach through The Filipino Channel and new media, millions of viewers are expecting a world-class show when the Binibining Pilipinas Coronation night rolls out in April.
Asked about the five year partnership between the leading network and this most celebrated beauty tilt, ABS-CBN’s Vice President for Special Projects, Chit Guerrero, says “We are buckling down to work on the aspects of the production that will ensure a Bb. Pilipinas Pageant that will go beyond the ordinary, something you’ve never been seen before. We know that being the most prestigious beauty contest in the Philippines for more than four decades, the Bb. Pilipinas Pageant and Coronation Night is eagerly anticipated by everyone in the country and even beyond our shores. Because we are ABS-CBN, expectations are high. It’s not going to be easy, but we will definitely put up an excellent show.”
BPCI’s Stella Marquez Araneta on the other hand is thrilled about the impending changes and the extensive global reach guaranteed by the brand new alliance. BPCI, founded by Chairman Stella Marquez-Araneta has been a key partner in nation-building and has produced the country’s best beauties as Philippine ambassadors of beauty and…wait for it, world peace. BPCI has been involved in projects that focus on skills training, outreach work and other relevant services for the marginalized sector of the population. At the height of the Ondoy calamity, Bb. Pilipinas beauties literally got their feet wet and their hands dirty to help in the aid efforts.
Evidence of this “out of the box” mindset was the recent series of screenings that were conducted at the Gateway Suites, Araneta Center. For the first time in its 47 years of existence, the BPCI opened to the media the rigorous screening process that scrutinized the 112 applicants.
The official list of Bb. Pilipinas 2011 candidates was revealed last Saturday after many hours of screening by a committee composed of Araneta, BPCI Executive Directors Conchitina Sevilla Bernardo, Pitoy Moreno, artist Betsy Westendorp, fashion director Raymond Villanueva, Ms. Universe-Philippines Venus Raj, and other reigning and past Bb. Pilipinas titlists.
The announcement revealed yet another first. Instead of the usual 24 candidates, the committee chose forty to make the official roster.
